Martin Mackay

Lead Inspector

Martin joined Grampian Police in 1990 serving across a variety of rural and urban communities before joining the CID and specialising in a number of areas including intelligence, counter terrorism and historical criminal investigations.  He has served in both local policing and CID at each rank and has additionally worked within Professional Standards and externally on secondment.

As a Local Area Commander, Martin has served twice within the communities of Aberdeen South implementing strategies and partnerships to deliver consistent and unprecedented drops in violence and overall crime in a busy city centre environment; resulting in the awarding of prestigious Purple Flag award for 6 years.  He additionally has experience in a number of specialist roles including event and match commander and brings wide and varied policing and management experience to the inspectorate.

Martin is a Superintendent in Police Scotland, and was appointed as a Lead Inspector at HM Inspectorate of Constabulary in Scotland (HMICS) in July 2019.
