Inspection of Scottish Police Authority Forensic Services - Terms of Reference

01 December 2016

HMICS has published terms of reference for its inspection of the Scottish Police Authority Forensic Service. The aim of this inspection is to assess the effectiveness and efficiency of leadership, governance, management and delivery of forensic services provided by the Scottish Police Authority. It will scrutinise how the Scottish Police Authority is meeting its statutory obligations under Section 31 of the Police and Fire Reform (Scotland) Act 2012 by providing forensic services to the Police Service, the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner and the Lord Advocate and Procurators Fiscal.

The results of our review will:

  • Provide independent assurance as to the efficiency and effectiveness of the provision of forensic services in Scotland; and
  • Highlight areas of good practice and any areas for improvement.
