HM Inspectorate of Constabulary in Scotland and HM Inspectorate of Prosecution in Scotland have committed to undertake a joint inspection to assess the implementation of the emergency criminal justice provisions introduced by the Coronavirus (Scotland) Act 2020, to enable the criminal justice system in Scotland to continue to operate during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The aim of this inspection will be to consider the extent to which the emergency provisions have been used and the subsequent impact on the efficiency and effectiveness of the administration of criminal justice in Scotland as it relates to Police Scotland and to the Crown Office Procurator Fiscal Service. It will consider whether any elements of the emergency provisions could result in more effective and efficient ways of working in the long term.
