Local Policing+ Missing Persons - Terms of Reference

21 January 2015

HMICS has published its Terms of Reference for its review of the handling of missing person reports in Aberdeen.

The aim of this inspection is to assess the state, effectiveness and efficiency of the arrangements for the management of adults, children and young people reported missing in Police Scotland Aberdeen Division.

This inspection will comprise the + element of the wider HMICS inspection of local policing which is being carried out in Aberdeen Division in early 2015. As part of the +element, HMICS will also examine national oversight of missing people investigations in Police Scotland.

In association with Children in Scotland, Care Inspectorate and the Scottish Institute of Policing Research, the inspection will look at all aspects of a missing person investigation – from initial report and assessment of risk through to investigations, harm reduction strategies and working with other agencies.

When the inspection is complete, a report will be published and laid before the Scottish Parliament.
