Accounts Commission

The Accounts Commission holds councils and other local government bodies in Scotland to account and helps them improve by reporting to the public on their performance.

Best Value Characteristics

Guidance to help local authorities and other public bodies to demonstrate continuous improvement in their performance.

Care Inspectorate

Scrutiny body whose vision is “that everyone experiences safe, high-quality care that meets their needs, rights and choices.”

Crerar Review

A commissioned review in 2007 to improve the way scrutiny bodies operated in regard to public services.

Education Scotland

Scottish Government executive agency charged with supporting quality and improvement in Scottish education.

EFQM

European Foundation for Quality Management

Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS)

Support body whose purpose is to enable the people of Scotland to experience the best quality of health and social care.

HMICS

His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary in Scotland

Mental Health at Work (MHAW) Commitment

This is an agreement, established by Blue Light Together, declaring that mental health is, and will remain, a firm priority for all UK emergency services.

NPM

The UK’s National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) was established in March 2009 after the UK ratified the OPCAT in December 2003. It is made up of 21 statutory bodies that independently monitor places of detention.

Public Service Improvement Framework (PSIF)

Self-assessment approach to support improvement in organisations, with a comprehensive review of their own activities and results. It promotes a robust approach to continuous improvement and is mapped to a number of established organisational improvement tools.
