Dawn joined the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) as a prosecutor in 1994, working for the first 8 years of her 26 year career in the Glasgow and Edinburgh Procurator Fiscal offices. In Edinburgh she undertook a number of management roles, including managing summary trials, sheriff and jury work and latterly managing the preparation of High Court cases for trial.
Following promotion to Principal Depute in 2002 Dawn began working in Crown Office where she undertook a number of specialist roles, including financial crime investigations, preparation of cases for Appeal and policy work.
In 2016 Dawn undertook a 3 year secondment with the Inspectorate of Prosecution in Scotland as Assistant Inspector, instrumental in the publication of various reports including the thematic review of the investigation and prosecution of sexual crimes and the thematic review on the prosecution of young people.
Dawn was appointed Lead Inspector at HM Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMICS) in May 2020
