Status of all recommendations

Where the Force Executive becomes involved in the decision making of any vetting case (out with the processes described with the Vetting Manual of Guidance) it should report these cases to the SPA Complaints and Conduct Committee for oversight.

Police Scotland should, as part of the work being conducted for the NPCC Historic Data Wash, ensure that iVPD checks are conducted for all officers and staff.

Police Scotland should review and amend booking-in processes and facilities at Dundee custody centre to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the process.

Police Scotland should ensure that clear lines of accountability are defined and stipulated for custody supervisors in the event of an adverse incident resulting in serious harm to a detainee.

Police Scotland should ensure that the recording of strip searches at Dundee custody centre provides an accurate reflection of practice.

Police Scotland should collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure that relevant health related information is recorded on detainee’s escort records.

Police Scotland, SPA Forensic Services and Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service should work with Scottish Government to collate and produce data to facilitate an assessment of the scale and nature of drug driving in Scotland. This should include a review of combination drink and drug driving behaviour.

SPA and Police Scotland should consider an auditable mechanism to assess impact of new legislation in terms of resource, budget, policy and public confidence.
